In 1972 that group was formally registered as an organization and become Yayasan Dian Desa. At that time, its personnel totaled only four, and YDD’s activities were limited to clean water supply and sanitation. Its operating locations were limited to the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java Province.

YDD is active as a service provider in various development programs conducted by government or international bilateral/multilateral agencies during the planning stages, project design development and/or project implementation.
